Improving the identification of patients at risk of developing complications is an unmet medical need that requires the identification of new and easily accessible biomarkers. Extracellular vesicles, which carry information between cells and organs and carry protein markers reflecting the state of their cells of origin, have emerged in recent years as an attractive source of biomarkers in liver disease.
